Not Too Late for Seasonal Vaccines!
This winter, we are seeing a late spike in flu cases and that is putting strain on Manitoba’s hospitals and health facilities.
According to Manitoba’s Chief Provincial Public Health Officer, Dr. Brent Roussin, the increase in Influenza A cases is happening later in the season that recent years. “We still haven’t peaked in flu A,” Dr. Roussin was quoted in the CBC as saying. “Numbers are high, putting that increased strain on our ERs and hospitals.”
In fact, there were 17 times more cases reported in the most recent week compared to the same time last year, and the numbers are still trending up.
It’s not too late for your seasonal vaccine! Data from Manitoba Health shows only 25% of Manitobans have received a flu shot this season. You can help protect yourself and those around you by getting your vaccine.
Everyone 6 months of age and older can get the seasonal flu and COVID-19 vaccines. Everyone age 65+ should get a vaccine to help prevent pneumonia if they have not yet received a dose.
